First I would like to mention my family, because they are the highlight of my life. To my father and mother, Ray and Alma Boivin. They were the best parents a child could be blessed with in believing and supporting me through out the years. Even though they have both passed on, they are forever in my heart. I also have two son's from an earlier marriage and their names are Ian and Dalton. They have grown up to be fine young men and are very important in my life. Also important in my life is my wife Mary, my step-daughters, Kelli and Shelli. Kelli's husband Devin, their daughters Trystan and Brytan, Shelli's daughter Mirsyah.

I have been in the martial arts for 38 years and I have taught for more than 19 years in the Gladwin - Beaverton areas of Michigan. I have lived in Coleman Michigan for the past few years just south of these areas, but I am back in Gladwin now. I have studied a wide variety of different martial arts over the years and I hold a variety of different rankings. I have three different systems of martial arts that I have been teaching. They are the first three systems mentioned below. There are also five more programs that I offer with in the organization at this present time, a Bokido Sport Karate / Jujitsu program, a Bokido Combat / Sport Weapons program, a Bokido Street Wise Self Defense program, a Bokido Free Flowing Ki program and a Bokido RPM Aerobics program. I have these programs listed at the bottom of this page, telling when I founded them.

Grandmaster degree in Bokido Shi Do Kwan (First Generation Headmaster / Founder of this system of mixed martial arts)

Master degree in Bokido Kwan Tang Soo Do Karate (Founder of this Association)

Master degree in Bokido Kan Shingan Ryu Jujitsu (Founder of this Association)

2nd degree in Tae Kwon Do

2nd degree in Shotokan

2nd degree in Combat Jujitsu

1st degree in Hakkoryu Jujitsu

Also I have studied principles of Yoshitsune Jujitsu, Ninjuka Jujitsu, Shorin-Ryu, Dragon Kenpo, Combat Isshin Ryu, Hapkido, Kung fu, Ninjutsu, Kum Do, Iaido, Judo, Dim-Mak, Goju, Jeet Kune Do, Aikia, Boxing, Wrestling and a variety of Weapons.

I started my martial arts training in College, in 1972, when I was at Mid-Michigan Community College. My first teacher was Master Don Davis, who taught at Mid-Michigan and Central Michigan Colleges. From there I went on a journey that covered the 70's, 80's and 90's. I opened a few different schools over the years and studied a wide range of martial arts. Everything I learned from the different Instructors I studied with, help shape my martial art's journey I found myself on. My style evolved from my base art of Tang Soo Do to what I teach today - Shi Do Kwan. Towards the end of the 90's I created a small Organization that would govern the different systems I was teaching and later in life, the different systems blended into one.

I changed the name to Bokido Kai Shingando and formed the American Bokido Martial Arts Organization to govern over everything that I was teaching. This was on April 1st, 1999. April 1st, is my father's birthday, he passed away in 1985 and for my memory of my father, who has been my hero all of my life and all my Instructors, who are the voices in the wind, I changed the name to Bokido on my father's birthday. One year later, on April 1st, 2000, I form the U.S.A. Bokido Kwan Tang Soo Do Association and the U.S.A. Bokido Kan Jujitsu Association, which are branch Systems / Associations, of the American Bokido Martial Arts Organization. I also added the American Bokido Sport Karate / Jujitsu Program and the American Bokido Combat / Sport Weapons Program. On April 1st, 2001, I added the Bokido Street Wise Self Defense Program, the Bokido Free Flowing Ki Program and the Bokido RPM Aerobics Program. This totals eight different programs that I offer through the American Bokido Martial Arts Organization.

In 2001-2002, I was promoted to my Headmaster/Founder Degree by two different Associations, because of my age, around 50 years old at the time of the promotions, my 30 plus years in the martial arts at that time, the different rankings that I have earned in the martial arts and my development of my own system. The promotions were from the International Sungja Do Association and also the Combat Martial Art Practitioners Association. I feel it is an honor to be promoted to these titles of ranking by both the councils and I will honor these promotions in every thing I do, not only in the martial arts world, but in my whole life.

The notice below is the start of reconstructing my organization and how it can run better without any politics, so it is a family type organization and not just another martial arts group.

NOTICE: Bokido Kai Shingando, Bokido Kwan Tang Soo Do Karate and Bokido Kan Shingan Ryu Jujitsu Systems are now as of 10/30/02, combined under the new name of "Bokido Shi Do Kwan", a Michigan Martial Arts Self-Defense Combat System. This means that I am only going to teach this Michigan System, instead of trying to teach three other styles. The reason for this is my system is a blend of all my martial arts training and the new system reflects the Korean / Japanese cultures that I started with. Also the organization name has changed from the "American Bokido Martial Arts Organization" to the "American Bokido Association". This Association is small and to only govern over my schools that are linked to me. It may be opened to other schools in the future if need be.
